EMC Corp. said this morning that growing demand for its storage products and strong sales of VMware software drove its second-quarter profit up 52%. However, the company said it expects flat revenue in the third quarter. Analysts had expected another increase in profit. This month, EMC's shares have risen 8% on speculation that the company might be a takeover target for Cisco Systems Inc.
LSI Logic SAS integrated with HP
LSI Logic Corp. has announced that its serial-attached SCSI (SAS) products will be integrated into eight Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) ProLiant enterprise server platforms. The 4-port and 8-port SAS integrated controllers (ICs), the LSISAS1064 and LSISAS1068, plus SAS expander ICs and SAS host bus adapters will be made available in HP BladeSystem, HP Integrity, HP ProLiant and HP StorageWorks servers over the next year, the companies said.
Fujifilm releases WORM tape cartridge
Fuji Photo Film U.S.A. Inc. announced the commercial availability yesterday of the Fujifilm 3592 write once, read many (WORM) tape cartridge for the IBM 3592 Total Storage Enterprise Tape Drive System. The drives use a proprietary coating technology called NanoCubic and have native capacities of up to 300GB, transfer rates of 40 MBps and an archival life of 30 years.
Stellent supports StorEdge package
Stellent Inc. announced today that it will support Sun Microsystems Inc.'s StorEdge 5310 compliance archiving system, which couples the Sun StorEdge 5310 NAS appliance with Sun StorEdge compliance archiving software. Stellent Universal Content Management software currently works with the appliance only. Stellent will release an integration between the Stellent records management application and the StorEdge software.
