EU considers data retention mandates
The European parliament will consider whether or not to order telecom service providers and ISPs in Europe to save e-mail and call-detail records for at least one year. Last month, the committee rejected a similar request sponsored by the U.K., France, Ireland and Sweden.

Adaptec names Marc Lowe VP
Adaptec Inc. today announced that it has appointed Marc Lowe vice president and general manager of its storage components division. He had previously served at the company for seven years as the general manager for the SCSI business group and later the Fibre Channel products group. More recently, Lowe was the president and CEO of New Moon Systems Inc., and a managing partner at Praxis Ventures Inc.

Revivio developer appointed co-chair of SNIA committee
Revivio Inc. announced that one of its software developers has been appointed a co-chair of the Storage Networking Industry Association's Data Management Forum -- Data Protection Initiative. Mich Fisher will work with Jason Iehl of Quantum Corp. on the committee.

LSI Logic named McData partner

today that it raised $14.4 million in a Series B financing round from several venture capital firms, including Anthem Ventures Partners, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, DynaFund Ventures, Hamilton Technology Ventures and Windward Ventures. Analysts say Troika's products' interoperability with multiple switches is what has given them traction in the market.
