Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) and Network Appliance Inc. (NetApp) announced partnerships with FileNet Corp., the enterprise content management (ECM) company that competes with EMC Corp.'s Documentum business. HDS has integrated its storage arrays and data retention software with FileNet's P8 ECM platform release 3.5. NetApp, meanwhile, has achieved interoperability with the P8 platform, which now supports NetApp SnapLock compliance software for records and e-mail.
Haas business school builds IP SAN
The University of California's Berkeley-based Haas School of Business has bought Sanrad Inc's V-Switch 3000 iSCSI switch to implement an IP SAN that functions in conjunction with its existing Fibre Channel (FC) SAN in a tiered-storage scenario. This strategy enables Haas to off-load backup server traffic to the more cost-effective IP SAN, thereby freeing up the more expensive FC storage space for applications, such as e-mail, production clustered SQL server services and general file sharing.
AT&T, Cisco report startling disaster recovery findings
Almost a third of firms (28%) have no formal plans to protect their business against disasters caused by terrorism, natural disasters or system failures, according to a new survey and report on business continuity planning from AT&T and Cisco Systems Inc. in cooperation with the Economist Intelligence Unit. This is despite the fact that 28% of firms in the survey admitted they have already experienced a full shutdown of key business operations as a result of a disaster in the past.
