IBM has enhanced its entry-level DS300 storage subsystem by certifying it with Intransa Inc.'s StorControl storage clustering software. Users can now pool their storage into a single network. Originally a limited-scalability, small workload product used to create separate islands of storage, users can now deploy DS300s to span a range of storage from small workgroup environments to clustered, high-performance environments found in large enterprises, the companies said.
CNT launches multiprotocol, high-density switch
CNT announced the UCS 2900 that supports Gigabit Ethernet, FICON, Fibre Channel, ESCON, ATM, SONET as well as legacy networks across LANs, SANs, MANs and WANs. The UCS 2900 scales from 32 ports to over 4,096 ports, supporting speeds up to 2.6 Gbps on every port today, and up to 10 Gbps in the future. Its management and control system allows users to remotely monitor, test and reconfigure their physical infrastructure. And its automated "electronic patching" capabilities mean that once equipment is connected, the cables will never need to be manually relocated again.
Captaris offers Exchange archiving tool
Captaris Inc. announced the availability of Exchange Archive Link for its Alchemy document and records management system. Aimed at Microsoft Exchange users, this product helps them to comply with e-mail retention requirements, to lower the cost of archive storage and to respond to discovery demands from legal proceedings, public records requests and auditors.
Nimbus upgrades iSCSI appliances
Nimbus Data Systems Inc. announced the general availability of its second generation of iSCSI storage appliances. The Nimbus IPS-1200 and IPS-1600 are based on a new hardware platform that includes SATA disks, expandability to 8 terabytes and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports. The dual ports support automatic failover and load balancing through link aggregation.
