Brocade acquires Therion
Brocade Communications Systems Inc. announced that it has acquired Therion Software Corp., a privately held company based in Redmond, Wash. that is developing SAN management software. Brocade has acquired all of the remaining outstanding shares of Therion for approximately $9.3 million in cash, and assumed all of Therion's outstanding stock options.

The company had been working with Therion in stealth mode for over a year and plans to unveil technologies developed as a result of the acquisition at the Brocade conference on June 1, 2005 in Santa Clara, Calif.

"This acquisition allows us to integrate a skilled team with expertise in shared storage and dynamic system management into Brocade's engineering group, and accelerate several new product development programs," said Michael Klayko, CEO of Brocade.

Montilio unveils storage-to-LAN gateway
Startup Montilio Inc. is set to unveil its RapidFile storage-to-LAN gateway on a PCI card at the Storage Decisions show later this month. The card plugs into file servers, NAS gateways and NAS appliances, to increase data transfer performance by 200% to 500%, the company claims. It works with Linux, Windows and Unix operating systems.


AmeriVault seeks sales people
Data protection services provider, AmeriVault Corp., has launched a program to invite independent sales people seeking their own business, to sell AmeriVault's data recovery services. The company did not specify any job requirements. The program will initially launch in Atlanta; Charlotte, N.C.; Chicago; Cincinnati; Cleveland; Dallas; Detroit; Houston; Los Angeles; Miami; San Francisco and Tampa, Fla.


DataCore launches SANmelody 2.0
DataCore Inc. announced the next version of its storage management software, SANmelody 2.0. It offers increased support for Microsoft environments, including key Windows Server 2003 Storage Services, such as Virtual Disk Services, Volume Shadow Copy Services and Multipath I/O. Among other things, the new version also adds support for Microsoft Clusters and a range of iSCSI and IP SAN security features to better protect the network from security threats.
