Sun aligns with QLogic for SMEs
Sun Microsystems Inc. announced it has qualified QLogic's SANbox 5200 Fibre Channel switches and added the SANblade QLA210 host bus adapters (HBA) to its storage products. The QLogic SANbox 5200 switch uses a stacking technology that allows small and mid-size enterprise customers to scale up to 64 ports. The SANbox 5200 is qualified with Sun's StorEdge 3500, 6000 and 9000 series arrays. Branded as the Sun Fibre Channel HBA, the SANblade QLA210 Fibre Channel HBA is currently qualified with StorEdge 3510 and 3511 arrays and Sun Fire V20 and V40z servers.


Consortium eyes SunGard for $10.5B
Technology service provider SunGard Data Systems Inc. is reportedly in talks to be acquired for $10.5 billion by a consortium of private equity firms. SunGard's disaster recovery business, SunGard Availability Services, is thought to be hot property as businesses around the globe step up their security and data recovery practices.


Xiotech gets Novell Linux stamp
Xiotech announced that its Magnitude 3D array has been certified with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9, Service Pack 1. With this certification, and an earlier certification with Novell NetWare 6.5, Magnitude 3D is moving closer to becoming a networked storage product fully certified with Novell Open Enterprise Server (OES).


Overland ships 1,000th REO
Overland Storage claims it has shipped more than 1,000 REO disk-to-disk backup and recovery appliances. The company's 1000th REO customer, technology company Rover USA, is using the REO to protect growing volumes of data. Other current Overland customers include The Sacramento Police Department, The Southern Federal Credit Union and The State of Oregon.


Adaptec offers RAID-on-chip adapters
Adaptec Inc. announced Adaptec SCSI RAID 2230S and 2130S adapters: two Ultra320 SCSI RAID-on-Chip (ROC) based single- and dual-channel storage adapters for the PCI-X interconnect. The adapters insert into a PCI-X slot in entry-level and mid-range rack-mount servers. Adaptec said the adapters enable RAID data protection features that maximize system resources and reduce downtime.


ExaGrid secures $13.5M
ExaGrid Systems announced that the company has raised an additional $13.5 million from existing investors Highland Capital Partners and Sigma Partners. The company said that this new funding will help expand marketing and sales efforts. ExaGrid recently announced resellers Bishop Technologies Inc. and Tri-Delta Resources and the expansion of direct sales into the Midwest, New York, Texas and California.


Riverbed reaches 100th customer
Riverbed Technology announced that the company has sold its Steelhead appliances to more than 100 customers since the company's products were launched 10 months ago. Riverbed's technology speeds up application acceleration over a WAN. The company's Steelhead appliance offers network compression and adds application-specific optimization to reduce latency.
