SAN market buoyed by rise in director switch sales
Dell'Oro Group, supplier of information about the networking and telecommunications industries, announced that its new report reveals sales in the modular storage area network (SAN) switch segment (also known as directors) grew sequentially by 8% during the quarter. This increase offsets the decline in the fixed switch and host bus adapter (HBA) segments, producing a flat result for the overall SAN market in the third quarter as anticipated.

Connected teams with Belgacom
Archiving vendor Connected Corp., a subsidiary of Iron Mountain Inc., announced that it has entered into a service provider partnership with Belgacom SA, Belgium's leading telecommunications company. Under the agreement, Connected DataProtector/PC technology will power Belgacom's PC Backup service to help its customers ensure all of their critical information on PCs is securely protected and easily accessible in the event of a theft, computer virus, hardware crash, hacker attack, loss or user error. By transparently capturing data on PCs and storing it at Belgacom's remote data centers, data can be retrieved from wherever and whenever users login via any network or Internet connection, including Belgacom's DSL network.

Infortrend unveils iSCSI to SATA-II RAID system
RAID storage vendor Infortrend Inc. unveiled the industry's first iSCSI to SATA-II external RAID subsystem, as an addition to the EonStor line of RAID storage. The new subsystem complies with iSCSI standards, offers low-cost connectivity and supports SATA-II disks with Native Command Queuing at up to three Gbps

Backbone enhances DR software
BakBone Software Inc., a provider of data protection software, introduced VaultDR Plugin Modules (PMs), disaster recovery software for Linux and Solaris SPARC. Backbone said that VaultDR PMs reduce downtime in a disaster recovery scenario by allowing full system recovery, including the operating system, applications, system settings, disk partitioning information, and data, in hours as opposed to days. The company claims that by implementing VaultDR PMs, users can protect their entire system from corruption, user errors, virus hits, and hardware failures.

StorageTek integrates BridgeHead Software
BridgeHead Software, developer of the HyperTape enterprise storage management platform, and StorageTek announced the certification of HyperTape on the new StreamLine SL8500 modular library system. BridgeHead and StorageTek tested the integration -- driven by ACSLS Manager V7.1 software -- at the StorageTek Europe test laboratory in Toulouse, France.
