Deduplication technology needs to mature a bit before nearly half of our survey respondents would consider adding it to their environments. Underscoring that caution, 37% say they currently have no implementation plans. For those respondents already using data deduplication, 68% have opted for inline products that deduplicate data as it's written to disk, while 16% have products that deduplicate data after it's written to disk (postprocessing). The rest of the current dedupe users aren't sure what kind of technology lurks under the hood of their products. For those respondents using inline data deduplication, the largest percentage (33%) are backing up fewer than 10TB weekly; for those using postprocessing deduplication, 40% are backing up between 11TB and 20TB weekly.
