The LTO-4 tape drive format--touted for its high capacity and built-in encryption--is certainly appealing, yet only 10% of our survey respondents say they've implemented the technology. Another 33% say they'll deploy the new drives within the next six to 12 months, and an additional 26% will hop on the LTO-4 bandwagon, although they don't know when. , 34% say their current LTO configuration is adequate for their needs, 34% use a different format tape drive and 29% aren't ready for a technology refresh. In addition, 20% say LTO-4 drives are just too expensive. While much has been made about the new tape format's native encryption, 35% of respondents say they won't use this feature.
