Snapshot: Interest in SAS disks growing

Storage managers are starting to seriously consider serial-attached SCSI (SAS) drives as a means of building out their storage tiers. Snapshot survey respondents indicate that an average of 10% of the disk drives they currently use in all of their installed storage arrays are SAS drives; 2Gb/sec Fibre Channel (FC) remains the most prevalent disk drive used at 29%, followed by SATA drives at 25%. drives in the future, thanks to the widening availability of mixed SAS/SATA storage systems and the ability of SAS drives to offer performance competitive to FC drives at a lower price.
