Survey Says: Users name their 10GbE price

Ten Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) ports will have to get a whole lot cheaper before users will replace Fibre Channel (FC), according to the Wave 7 survey of Fortune 1000 storage administrators conducted by TheInfoPro.

Forty-one percent of respondents indicated that they'd consider an IP SAN a compelling alternative if 10GbE ports cost less than half that of FC port...



s. Still, only 9% of respondents indicated that they would stick with FC no matter what.


How much less would 10GbE ports have to cost compared to 4Gb/sec FC ports for an IP SAN to be compelling?
