A respectable chunk (20%) of the Fortune 1000 storage administrators surveyed by TheInfoPro for its Wave 6 Storage Study revealed that their firms have some sort of distributed/ global/clustered file system in place, while another 30% are considering their use. But that still leaves 50% of the respondents with no plans to deviate from regular old NFS and CIFS file systems. Part of the problem may be the vast number of vendors perceived to be in the space. Survey takers are using or considering technology from 15 vendors. Of those vendors, Microsoft, Symantec (Veritas) and Sun (Storage Technology Corp.) lead the pack, with startup PolyServe making a surprisingly strong showing.
