BROADCOM SAS/SATA RAID-ON-CHIP (ROC) DEVICE: First SAS/SATA RoC device with integrated PCI Express host bus architecture support. Based on the company's inRAID and XelCore RAID software stack, the RoC device gives OEMs flexibility in designing their RAID solutions, either in hardware or software, connecting to SAS or SATA disk drives. Furthermore, as an integrated chip, the device consumes less power and real estate than a comparable card-based RAID solution, the company says.

HITACHI TRAVELSTAR 4K120: First 2.5-inch hard disk drive to offer the ATAPI/ATA-7 AV Streaming Command Set, dubbed Smooth Stream by Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST). Streaming media capabilities, combined with quiet operation and low power consumption, make the drive applicable for consumer electronics (CE) devices such as digital video recorders, says HGST. Traditionally, CE devices have used larger 3.5-inch disk drives.
