If your users carry laptops with sensitive company info on them, it may behoove your organization to consider laptops equipped with the latest generation of encrypted disk drives.

Starting this winter, Seagate will ship the Momentus 5400 Full Disk Encryption (FDE), a 2.5-inch laptop drive with a specialized hardware chip that encrypts the entire disk drive, not just selected files or partitions. Rocstor is another vendor offering encrypted disk drives. The firm's Rocsafe fits into a laptop's internal drive bay, whereas its Rocbit models connect using USB or FireWire. The Rocbit drives come in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch shockproof configurations of up to 500GB. They also ship with EMC/ Dantz Retrospect software so they can be used as a secure backup target.
