SATA drive prices stable amid change

The parallel and Serial ATA (SATA) disk drives tracked by this column for the past couple of years have reached end-of-life, and parent company Maxtor has replaced them with the parallel ATA MaXLine III model number 7L250R0, and the SATA MaXLine III 7L250S0. Out of the chute, the parallel drive came in at 7.5% less than its predecessor, but the new SATA drive was priced the same--ending a string of 22 straight months of price declines. Other notable price fluctuations included the SDLT 600 drive, which dropped a substantial 10.4%, although media pricing remained the same.
