High-end tape takes a tumble
This month, the kings of midrange tape drives--SDLT 600 and LTO-3--both had dramatic price drops, with SDLT 600 prices falling by nearly 12% and LTO-3 prices falling by almost 10%. LTO-3 media also dropped substantially, down by 7.6%, although SDLT-II media didn't budge. On the disk drive front, parallel and Serial ATA drives retained their price parity. That said, the number of online suppliers offering the parallel version of Maxtor's MaXLine Plus II dropped significantly. We'll begin tracking the MaXLine Plus III drives next month because our current models have reached end-of-life.
