LTO-3 settles in

LTO-3 drives and media are beginning to make an impact. LTO-3 tape drive prices dropped by a healthy 3.5% this month, and media fell by a respectable 1.6%. More to the point, the number of online retailers selling LTO-3 models more than doubled, providing for greater competition. Another category in flux was 36GB SCSI drives, which edged up 1.7% in response to the introduction of a newer model number. Older LTO drives and media also showed movement--both upward and downward--but upon closer examination, those averages were the result of individual vendors with either extremely high or low prices entering or exiting the market.
