Meet the new LT0-3 drives and media

It's January, and time to refresh the disk drives and tape we will track for the coming year. We'll continue to track the same models on the hard-disk drive front--Seagate's 15K 36GB and 10K 73GB SCSI drives, as well as Maxtor's 250GB SATA and parallel ATA drives. But the midrange tape world has recently seen the introduction of LTO-3, which had a significant impact on LTO-2 prices this month. LTO-2 drives were down 6.6% for the month, while media was down 8.8%. For LTO-3 drives, we'll begin tracking the Certance 400GB/800GB LTO-3 LVD full-height unit, model CL1101-SS; for media, the Fuji LTO Ultrium 3 Data Cartridge, model 26230010.
