SDLT shows signs of life

Perhaps SDLT 600 isn't dead on arrival after all? For the most part, tape drives and media showed little or no movement this past month. One exception was SDLT II media, which dropped more than 10%. Besides dropping in price, there are also many more places to buy the media--up from only a handful last month, to more than 30 on pricegrabber.com. In the past few months, Quantum has certified a number of OEM deals for the drive, says Bob Abraham, president of Freeman Reports. Where there are drives, there's media. Meanwhile, over at Maxtor, which lost its second CFO in six months and reported a nearly $60 million loss for the quarter, prices on 250GB ATA and SATA drives dropped by an average of 3.7%.
