Judging by the price drops exhibited by LTO-2 and Super DLTtape I media this month, the tape wars are far from over, dropping 9.5% and 13.2%, respectively. And what of Super DLTtape II? Not only did its price go up by 5.6%, but the number of retailers offering it through pricegrabber.com dwindled down to three, from 11 last month. This is not a good sign.
In other news, Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) was able to explain the pricing shenanigans exhibited by its internal SureStore Ultrium 230i 100GB/200GB drive over the past couple of months. Simply put, HP had discontinued that model number in favor of the same drive in a different color ("carbon," rather than "flint"). The new model number, reflected here, is Q1515A#ABA.
