The past couple of months have been marked by slow, steady price declines for SCSI and parallel ATA drives, but not so for Serial ATA (SATA). In January, when we first began tracking SATA drives, they cost almost 9% more than their parallel brethren. Now, that difference stands at just 3%, and in the case of 250GB drives, just $7. If prices for these drives continue to fall at their current rate, they should be at price parity by June at the latest. Meanwhile, tape drive prices seem to have stabilized and prices for Super DLTtape I media have actually increased--a first for this column.
