While disk drives stayed on their slow, steady, predictable course this month, prices in tape land took a dramatic turn. For one thing, Hewlett-Packard has discontinued its Ultrium 230i, an internal LTO-1 dive, resulting in a price increase of 24.3%, if you can get it. Then, it appears that Quantum's SDLT 600 drive has finally hit the market, with the price dropping by a full 12.3%. That also fueled a substantial drop in SDL320 pricing, down almost 8% for the month. Media pricing also nose-dived around 8% on average. Meanwhile, Quantum's SDLT-II media (model TMDCS3) made its debut at $108 per cartridge.
