Last January, we began tracking the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus Nine 120GB drive. Until this month, one thing was constant: The price always went down. But now, the drive is back up a modest 2% to $100, where it was in October. Next month, we will begin tracking a new ATA drive, and would welcome your thoughts on whether to track a Serial ATA (SATA) or parallel ATA model.
Another segment to see significant price drops was tape media. SDLT 320 media saw the biggest drop (7.1%), probably because of the recent introduction of SDLT 600 drives. Overall, SDLT and LTO media dropped an average of 5% this month, and LTO-1 media can be purchased for under $40 per cartridge.
