Buyers of high-capacity hard drives can find some real bargains in the 181.6GB Seagate Barracuda models, which have ceased production. The average price per unit for these devices dropped 9% from month-earlier totals, however, some sources are reporting even deeper discounts that are as much as $400 below our average cost. Even lower-capacity drives saw price softening over the last month, with the average cost per unit falling about 5%. Tape drives experienced modest 2% and 3% decreases for Super DLT and LTO drives, respectively. Tape media also proved to be budget-friendly for year-end purchasers, with Super DLT cartridges posting a significant 8% decline from November rates.
