Late fall purchasers of storage components benefited from solid declines in hard drive prices, for both high- and lower-capacity models. Average costs for the smaller, 73GB devices fell nearly 4.5% compared with last month's numbers. Prices for the larger, 181.6 GB units, which have showed a steady decline since their introduction earlier this year, dropped more than 5% over the past month. In the tape categories, average per-unit costs for 200GB (compressed) LTO tape drives registered a modest decline of about $13 since October. Similarly, per-unit prices for 220GB (compressed) Super DLT drives fell by approximately $26 in November. Media prices for both tape formats also showed moderate savings.
