Brocade SilkWorm 4100:
First family of fabric switches to support 4Gb/sec connectivity. Announced last month at Storage Networking World in Orlando, FL, the 4100 family features 32 physical ports, but can be purchased with licenses for configurations of 16 or 24 ports. The ports are backward compatible with 1Gb/sec and 2Gb/sec equipment.
The new fabric switch is based on Brocade's fifth-generation ASIC design and Fabric OS 4.4. As such, the 4100 supports mainframe FICON connectivity and has been certified to support IBM's control unit port, or CUP. Up to eight interswitch links can be trunked for 32Gb/sec of throughput. Finally, Brocade has increased the number of buffer credits it supports, extending the distance a fabric can span to 500 km in wave-division multiplexing environments.
Accordance Systems M100:
First compact, low-cost EIDE RAID controller supporting 2.5" laptop drives. The M100 plugs into a standard PC storage bay and uses two 2.5" disk drives instead of a single 3.5" drive. The M100 supports Windows, Linux and Macintosh environments, and is touted as a cost-effective way to back up or mirror data on a personal computer. List price is $399.
