Remote-office backups continue to concern Storage readers, with 88% of those surveyed employed by companies with remote offices. The number of respondents who say their remote offices back up data locally (57%) has actually increased since 2007, when we last asked the question. Respondents who said their remote offices backed up to a central site dropped to 33% vs. 49% last year. While regional location backups have gained in popularity, only 10% of users back up data that way. The top two remote backup problems--backups done by inexperienced staff and/or not performed regularly, and backing up to tape is costly and/or unreliable--haven't changed since last year.
Despite their backup issues, 76% of those surveyed are backing up remote data directly to tape. --Christine Cignoli
