In a recent study by TheInfoPro (TIP), storage professionals were asked what they were paying per Fibre Channel (FC) port. FC's price per port and associated host bus adapter (HBA) costs have surfaced as a major pain point. Some respondents to the TIP survey feel these expenses may accelerate the adoption of IP-based storage area networks (SANs). As one Fortune 1000 Financial Services provider said, "Today the price of capacity, bandwidth and CPU power is negligible, so the economics of Fibre Channel connectivity does not add up. These factors should act as a catalyst for iSCSI adoption."

Negotiated Prices Paid:
Director or switch prices average from $1,000 to $2,000 per port for most.
