Another year gone by, another year wiser about data backup? It looks that way based on our recent survey, although improving backup and recovery still requires baby steps. Most of the same pain points from our 2007 backup issue continue to plague respondents. Rapidly growing capacity and backups taking too long are still the biggest headaches. But there are some bright spots when it comes to the usual backup and recovery complaints. The most commonly experienced problem, backups taking too long, has improved a bit, with 61% of those surveyed feeling that pain vs. last year's 69%. And taking too long to recover data was named as a headache by just 40% of respondents vs. 54% in 2007. The top technology respondents are using to ease backup angst is additional disk capacity, which was cited by 64% of respondents.
