Server disk drives remain overwhelmingly SCSI, a survey of Storage magazine readers revealed last month, with 61.5% favoring SCSI to 28% opting for Fibre Channel (FC), and a mere 5% for ATA. The 36GB drive remains the favorite with 48% of SCSI drive buyers. FC drive buyers, meanwhile, are more likely to buy 73GB drives (50%). Readers showed no particular preference for ATA drive sizes, which may be a result of the small number of readers that chose ATA as their primary drive. As far as manufacturers go, Seagate remains most readers' primary disk drive vendor, with 52.8% of the SCSI market, and 41% of the FC market. The only segment where Seagate does not dominate is in the ATA segment, where it was narrowly beat out by Maxtor.
