BELIEVE IT OR NOT, you can now buy EMC software for less than a thousand bucks. With the launch of its Insignia line this month, many of EMC's applications are now well within reach of true small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
EMC Insignia products include the iSCSI-based AX100 array (starting at $5,500), VisualSRM 1.7 SMB Edition ($995), Storage Administrator for Exchange ($1,995), Retrospect 7.5 backup software ($195 to $1,295), RepliStor 6.1 replication software ($995 per node) and eRoom SMB edition collaboration software ($995).
Granted, none of these products are new to EMC per se, but they've been tailored to the SMB market. "Each one of these products taken on their own is pushing into new territory of ease of use and capability," says Larry Zulch, VP and general manager of the EMC Insignia group.
The current EMC Insignia lineup is admittedly a work in progress, Zulch says. In the short term, the Insignia line may be joined by an SMB-focused e-mail archiving product.
