Ever wonder whatever became of EMC's ISC, the "vendor neutral" storage consulting service the company launched with Accenture last summer? Word on the street is that it's a dud --at least when it comes to recommending non-EMC hardware.

Not so, says EMC's Alex Adamopoulos, director of market development for the ISC. Although he can't name any of them, Adamopoulos claims the ISC has "fifty plus engagements" and has been "overwhelmingly successful."

That could be true. According to Frank Brick, chairman and CEO of Ar-enal Digital Solutions--a provider of storage management services to managed hosting companies--Arsenal employees have run across ISC consultants "in large environments, especially as they move from direct-attached storage (DAS) to SAN environments on a vendor-specific platform."

Meanwhile, Richard Scannell, vice president of corporate development at GlassHouse Technologies, flat out "has yet to come across the partnership. It could be that I'm not at the most senior level, or it could be that the deal isn't real on the street."
