A sneak peek at Storage magazine's April 2012 issue: Find out about integrated cloud backup, storage systems for big data and storage for virtual servers.
Integrated Cloud Backup
New capabilities built-in (or bolted onto) traditional backup apps can make cloud backup services appealing alternatives. These revamped backup apps can use the cloud as another backup tier or may be able to leverage these remote services to reduce reliance on tape.
Storage for Big Data
Forget about the “big data” hype and look at the data your firm is storing and maintaining; if it’s too big to be useful or too great a burden for your storage systems, you might want to consider storage systems built to take on very large files that need to be shared or millions of data files that need to be turned into information.
Monitoring and Managing Storage for Virtual Servers
Virtualized servers have always been a headache for storage admins, but hypervisor vendors and storage vendors have worked to simplify the management and maintenance of storage used by virtual machines. But it’s still a tough task that may require new approaches/practices to storage management and even some new tools.
