2004 PURCHASING INTENTIONS SURVEY RESULTS
The 2004 Purchasing Intentions Survey was conducted in August 2004. All respondents had specific purchasing authority. The following results are based on 606 respondents.
THIS IS “THE” STORAGE SURVEY
Twice a year since 2002, Storage magazine conducts its extensive Purchasing Intentions Survey with several hundred subscribers. Survey respondents are the IT pros on the front lines of buying, deploying and managing network storage products. This survey has become an important indicator of storage spending trends, covering both overall budget information and detailed analysis in specific hardware and software product categories.
Since many storage managers are now budgeting for 2005, we make these survey results available for you to utilize as a resource. Hold your budget plan up to the light by reviewing which products your peers are spending their budget dollars on.
SURVEY RESULTS BY CATEGORY
BIG TRENDS
- Budgets are up, but biggest spenders have backed off since March
- Disk spending is up and remains firm, with midrange purchases dominating
- Tools remain a problem
- The move to disk backup has begun, but some caution has set in on technology choices
- Tape taking on new importance as archiving becomes more important
- Networks slowly becoming more structured
- iSCSI getting cautious adoption
