Professional services firm saves with cloud, virtualization
ICF International saved over $2 million in a data center upgrade by using virtualization and cloud technology. Lon Anderson, vice president of corporate information technology, told SNW attendees the change was made during a three-year period of growth in which the company was aggressively acquiring companies and adding employees, making the successful upgrade even more impressive. “We started focusing on virtualizing what we could virtualize quickly, and started to place applications into the cloud,” Anderson said.

StorSimple announces cloud storage appliance upgrades
StorSimple used the crowd at SNW to its advantage by creating buzz around its cloud storage appliance upgrades. The improvements included usable local capacity scaling to 50 TB for its 5520 model and 100 TB for the 7520. The company also upgraded to automatic data tiering and snapshots for its management software.

Amplidata upgrades AmpliStor one year after first product launch
Amplidata launched AmpliStor XT at SNW, giving users an optimized version of its object storage software designed for cloud archiving of media and entertainment files, and big data file storage. The Belgium-based vendor said the new software enhances its BitSpread erasure coding software.

SNW threatened by Texas tornado
