Products of the Year competition. The category covers Fibre Channel and iSCSI SANs, network-attached storage, multiprotocol systems, direct-attached storage (NAS), hard disk drives, solid-state storage, disk controllers, caching appliances, storage virtualization appliances and cloud storage gateway appliances. Enterprise storage system finalists are listed in alphabetical order.
Astute Networks Inc. ViSX G4
Astute's ViSX G4 flash storage system, designed to speed performance of storage for applications and virtual desktops, received a makeover with performance and capacity bumps, plus inline data deduplication.
Avere Systems Inc. FXT 4500 Edge Filer
Avere FXT appliances can sit in front of other vendors' NAS devices at remote sites or in the cloud, and use global namespace and a combination of dynamic random access memory (DRAM), non-volatile random-access memory, solid-state drives (SSDs) and hard drives to accelerate file performance.
EMC Corp. VMAX 40K
The VMAX 40K is the largest of EMC's highest end enterprise SAN family. It scales to 40 PB of usable capacity, and includes support for 2.5-inch SAS and enterprise multi-level cell (eMLC) flash drives. It also has a new version of the Enginuity operating software.
Hitachi Data Systems Corp. Hitachi Unified Storage VM (HUS VM)
Nasuni Corp. Nasuni 4.0
The latest version of Nasuni's cloud storage controller includes a performance increase, single global namespace, support for iSCSI as well as NAS, and mobile file access and access control.
NexGen Storage Inc. NexGen n5-150 Storage System
NexGen's hybrid flash storage system uses PCI Express-based solid-state storage, and a performance quality of service feature that lets customers provision and manage performance on a volume basis. It also has Dynamic Data Placement for real-time tiering, as well as thin provisioning and data reduction.
Nimble Storage Inc. Nimble CS400 Series
The CS400 is the higher performing of Nimble Storage's two hybrid storage series. The CS4000 is designed for I/O-intensive workloads such as larger scale virtual desktop infrastructure implementations or transaction processing supported by Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server databases.
Nimbus Data Systems Inc. Gemini Flash Memory Array
Gemini is Nimbus Data's third-generation all-flash array. It comes with a 10-year warranty and high availability in the form of hot-swappable redundant controllers and self-healing flash drives. The system holds 48 TB of flash in 2U, and can scale to 1 PB per rack.
Pure Storage Inc. FlashArray FA-320
The FA-320 is Pure Storage's dual controller all-flash array, which holds up to 22 TB of multi-level cell (MLC) flash. Its Purity software supports active-active controllers for high availability, and uses FlashCare technology to improve MLC flash performance and longevity through better garbage collection.
Riverbed Technology Granite 1.0
Granite is an iSCSI-based appliance sold either as hardware or a virtual appliance with up to 4 TB of single-level cell (SLC) solid-state storage in the hardware model. The appliance accelerates block-level data moving across the WAN, allowing customers to rapidly boot virtual servers over the WAN.
Starboard Storage Systems Inc. AC72 Storage System
Starboard Storage's multiprotocol AC72 hybrid flash system includes management features such as Dynamic Storage Pooling, thin provisioning, automatic load balancing and caching optimization for SSDs.
StorSimple Inc. StorSimple 7520
The 7520 is the largest of StorSimple's iSCSI cloud storage controllers. It includes 20 TB of hard drive capacity, 2 TB of eMLC SSD capacity and up to 500 TB of capacity with a subscription to a public cloud service provider.
Tegile Systems Inc. Zebi HA2800 Storage Array
Tegile's all-flash multiprotocol array uses a metadata-accelerated storage system that stores metadata independently of the data on SSDs for faster retrieval. It includes 192 GB of DRAM and 4.4 TB of SSD capacity.
Tintri Inc. VMstore T540
Tintri upgraded its dual-controller hybrid SSD "virtual machine-centric" storage system to support advanced cloning, full integration with vStorage APIs for Array Integration and support for multiple VMware vCenter servers.
Whiptail Technologies Inc. Invicta ISSA-12
The Invicta multiprotocol all-flash array scales to 72 TB, and consists of two storage routers and up to six storage nodes. The routers provide redundant paths and manage host connectivity and storage pools while mapping, mirroring and striping LUNs across nodes; the storage nodes handle data reads and writes.
