Data networking equipment: 2012 Products of the Year finalists

There are only two data networking equipment category finalists in the Storage magazine/SearchStorage.com 2012 Products of the Year competition. The networking equipment category covers switches, host bus adapters (HBAs), network interface cards (NICs), security devices, converged network adapters (CNAs) and virtual I/O products. Finalists are listed in alphabetical order.

Emulex Corp. LightPulse LPe16000B 16 Gbps Fibre Channel HBAs

The Emulex Corp. LightPulse LPe16000B Fibre Channel (FC) HBA not only delivers 1.2 million IOPS per port, according to the company, but supports PCI Express 3.0 and the latest Intel Corp. Xeon E5-2600 platform processors. The company also says the LPe16000B's reliability is another advantage, with a reported 10 million hours mean time between failures.

QLogic Corp. FlexSuite 2600 Series Fibre Channel Adapters

QLogic Corp.'s FlexSuite 2600 Series FC adapters support 4 Gbps, 8 Gbps and 16 Gbps FC, and can convert to a 10 Gbps Ethernet CNA to support NICs, Fibre Channel over Ethernet and iSCSI network traffic. The adapter can be converted in the field with a firmware upgrade. QLogic claims the 2600 Series can deliver 1.2 million IOPS as an FC adapter.

Only one award will be presented in the networking equipment category this year.
