QUESTION POSED ON: 05 January 2003
I've researched RAID and all its levels as well as the architecture. One question I would like to ask as part of my research is, "What effect does RAID have on the efficiency of the operating system"?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
RAID can increase the overall operating system performance when configured correctly. By stripping the specific OS platform across multiple disks, one can in effect gain the performance advantage of having multiple spindles from the aggregate disk drives working together.

This RAID volume would replace the traditional local disk that many systems have today.
