I generally use IOMETER for NT based systems to test throughput into a SAN. IOMETER can be found at http://developer.intel.com/design/servers/devtools/iometer/index.htm. For Solaris, you can use the IOSTAT utility to get a general idea of performance.
The nice part about these tools is they work on anyone?s storage so they work as a reality check on vendor performance claims.
