How are permissions controlled on network attached storage (NAS)?

EXPERT RESPONSE
Permissions are generally handled with access control lists (ACLs) like a Unix system. The userid and groupid must be entered with the permission controls. If the NAS device is compatible with Windows Active Directory, then the AD can be used to control access.
