I manage a small simple network of 12 desktops with no servers. I want to implement NAS into the environment to assist with backup and storage of our production and shipping/receiving records. Could you recommend a solution that is robust yet easy to manage?

Almost all NAS is easy to install and manage. That's really very basic to the appliance concept and most vendors quote installation times in minutes. It is really simple and a great solution for storage consolidation and file sharing. As for robustness, there are some differences there. Most have RAID protection for the disk drives and many offer an option of failover with clustered NAS controllers (also called NAS heads). Obviously you pay extra for those, so you need to decide what your requirements are and whether it's worth the extra cost. Most of the mainline storage vendors have excellent offerings, so you have many choices.
