Depending upon what your applications performance characteristics and requirements are will have an impact on the type of disk drive to use. For I/O intensive, high performance applications, utilize a high performance 10,000 (10K) or 15K rpm Fibre Channel, UltraSCSI or serial attach SCSI (SAS) disk drives. Since storage intensive applications that do not require high performance do need lots of storage capacity, then a serial (SATA) disk drive could be a fit. Keep in mind that these are very general guidelines and a better understanding of your environment and applications characteristics are important before saying that a SATA disk drive would be good or not.
