What factors should I take into consideration when selecting e-mail archiving tools?

As with all solutions, you must determine what your needs are at present. Some factors for choosing this type of solution include:
- What is the reason I am archiving (required or voluntary)?
- What is the environment I am using (OS and mail server applications)?
- What is available to me, as far as archiving tools?
- How much utilization does my server get?
- Will this solution allow expansion as my needs expand, without limiting me to this solution?
