QUESTION POSED ON: 08 September 2004
Could iSCSI/SATA be considered as an alternative to SSA for low demand P-series servers where directed-attached storage is preferred to NAS?

If there is support for iSCSI through a driver that installs on the P-series (to handle the session layer function of iSCSI in the program stack), then it could be an alternative to use for block-level I/O. You need a storage system that supports iSCSI. The drives behind it have no bearing on the iSCSI connection -- just in cost, performance and reliability.
