What are the reasons to migrate from NAS to iSCSI? Are there applications that run on iSCSI that can't be used in NAS?

I don't see any reason to migrate from a NAS environment to iSCSI. There are some applications that block I/O directly or that do not support having a NAS attachment (these are few and far between), in which case you can use iSCSI to provide the block I/O. NAS does file I/O using a remote file system, while block I/O is typically done using SCSI commands over Fibre Channel or encapsulated with TCP/IP over Ethernet (iSCSI). You'll need to look at this on an application by application basis.
