Jim,

Our storage department is acquiring storage responsibilities for all Microsoft server platforms. Currently there are no policies and standards for our user and departmental file servers. In my opinion I think we should implement quota policies and acceptable use/file restriction policies to help manage this environment. Where would be a good place to find out what other companies are doing for file server policies?

Network Appliance has a wealth of information on quota policies, so I would start there. There are a number of case studies on different companies. One that I found interesting was this one discussing how GTE was able to scale their NT file server environment.

Check with the other file server vendors for similar information.
