With only RAID-5 available for your database, your layout is
straight-forward. You should separate your indexes and logs while spreading your data archives evenly across physical drives. If you have different size physical drives within the array, you will want to put data, index and logs on the smaller drives to reduce your access density. There is not much more you can do.
With a more advanced array such as HDS Lightning or EMC Symmetrix you would have the option to mix protection schemes. Data, index and logs would be best suited for RAID-1 while archives could be placed on RAID-3/5.
