Storage Networking Industry Association

The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) is a nonprofit trade group that promotes standards and technologies for the storage industry and offers education services, technical work groups and certifications for IT professionals.

One of SNIA’s main roles is to develop, accelerate and lay out roadmaps for storage standards, particularly for emerging technologies. Those include SNIA’s Green Storage Initiative, called Emerald, which provides end-users and the industry with a means to test, measure and evaluate storage systems power usage and efficiency. Another is the Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI), an industry standard that defines the interface that applications will use to create, retrieve, update and delete data elements from cloud computing.

The association was incorporated in December 1997 and has vendor-neutral technology centers worldwide, including one in Colorado Springs. SNIA has eight regional affiliates and forums outside of the United States, in places such as Australia/New Zealand, Brazil, China, Europe, India, Europe, Japan, Malaysia and South Asia.
