All I can tell you is that LTO is currently outselling SuperDLT two to one. I theorize that this is due to many people's dissatisfaction with DLT 4000, 7000 and 8000, as opposed to their dissatisfaction with SuperDLT itself. They were unhappy with the reliability of DLT drives and didn't like the fact that Quantum was the only one that made them. They see LTO as a natural change and they like that LTO is made by more than one manufacturer.
Another reason is that LTO media is much cheaper than DLT. So you have a drive of similar capacity and performance that is made by more than one manufacturer and its media costs a lot less than its competitor. It's hard to argue against that.
