Are there any publicly available documents describing methodologies for analyzing storage infrastructures both before and after SAN implementation? I want to make sure that I've covered all the bases and taken into account every relevant component before purchasing a SAN. I also want to make sure that the SAN delivers on the expected benefits.
I think IT-Centric has a tool for calculating return on investment from SAN implementations. A guy I work with (David Merrill) put together a white paper on the subject and it has received good reviews. The white paper goes through everything from implementing a storage management group to storage and server consolidation.
